Numbered Days
Savoring these numbered days
I cradle my soul in the rhythm of comfort
Back and forth
Rocking gently
Thoughts, they churn,
They churn,
But alas!
They find a problem;
A bend in the road
Awkward, unsteady,
Yet time for the soul
To get up from its slumber
To face winter’s cold
To face spring and summer
Then face the great fall
Fight through the days
Where the enemies outnumber
They outnumber them greatly
But they are numbered, no doubt
A number with end;
The number to start
Set dates, build defenses,
Leave room for the heart
To feel, accept, and pain,
And yearn
To bleed, to breathe,
To give and receive
To savor the moments;
The battles, the loss
To gain from the sadness;
A lesson with cost
I cradle my soul in the rhythm of comfort
Back and forth
Rocking gently
Thoughts, they churn,
They churn,
But alas!
They find a problem;
A bend in the road
Awkward, unsteady,
Yet time for the soul
To get up from its slumber
To face winter’s cold
To face spring and summer
Then face the great fall
Fight through the days
Where the enemies outnumber
They outnumber them greatly
But they are numbered, no doubt
A number with end;
The number to start
Set dates, build defenses,
Leave room for the heart
To feel, accept, and pain,
And yearn
To bleed, to breathe,
To give and receive
To savor the moments;
The battles, the loss
To gain from the sadness;
A lesson with cost
