When Stripped of Disguise
We can repeat our mistakes
As clever as palindromes
Each letter, a detail
Too familiar to quote
Unoriginal, it seems, to
Spell backwards our flaws
For our flaws don't impress;
Nonetheless,
They draw
Weary eyes,
Rolling eyes,
A sea of amused,
Probing eyes
That take pleasure in the way
We hide our demise
We arrange all the lies
To look learned,
To look wise
Yet we look so pathetic
When stripped of disguise
As clever as palindromes
Each letter, a detail
Too familiar to quote
Unoriginal, it seems, to
Spell backwards our flaws
For our flaws don't impress;
Nonetheless,
They draw
Weary eyes,
Rolling eyes,
A sea of amused,
Probing eyes
That take pleasure in the way
We hide our demise
We arrange all the lies
To look learned,
To look wise
Yet we look so pathetic
When stripped of disguise
